When someone gives their life to
Christ, they become a new creature in Christ, Hence the name…”TheNewOne”.
Born as Ronald Hawkins in St. Louis, Missouri as the
youngest in a family of five, his his
musical influences include KRS-1, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim,
Cameo and George Clinton to name a few. The New One began
writing Christian songs immediately after he gave his life
to Christ, and began to record them several months later.
Many have enjoyed the lyrics to his songs, as one young man
puts it, “He’s like a 2003 Chuck D! Everything he says
he makes you feel it, plus his lyrics are deep”.
Future plans
include: writing more gospel songs for other artist to
record, to create a homeless program that would introduce
homeless men/woman back into the workforce, and develop a
mentoring program that will take at risk teens off the
streets and give them an alternative. He also
plans on building more Churches with the money that will
come forth as a result of his music ministry.
In closing, to quote another
listener of his new CD, Son Of A King, "I think
this dude could be the one to bridge the gap between secular
and spiritual music. He has the spiritual lyrics, but his
delivery style and beats has a secular feel to them”.
