In
1979 in West Philadelphia, M'LiK was born into a Seventh-Day
Adventist family. M'LiK was introduced to gospel music at an
early age. Walter Arties, Mahalia Jackson and Whintley
Phipps, to name a few, were instrumental artist in the
beginning stages of his musical career.
In
the 7th grade, M'LiK was introduced to gospel rap through a
friend. The very first gospel rap that he heard he
considered to be wack! Not being one to step down from a
challenge, when asked if he could do better, M'Lik wrote his
first gospel rap song (Who's The Man off of his 2003 debut album
'Corner of Heaven & Hell). That moment would be a major
turning point in his life. That is when he officially become
M'LiK (M'LiK is an acronym for My Lord Is King).
After
years of struggling back and forth with the decision to do
gospel or secular music, M'LiK attended Huntsville,
Alabama's Oakwood College. While a freshman there in 1998,
he met Minister Joseph 'Poppa Joe' Branch. There at Oakwood
they teamed up and started Good Boyz Records. While in
Alabama, M'LiK played for and/or opened for groups such as
Dynamic Praise and Madison Mission Mass Choir. Also, he was
able to meet such groups and individuals as Take 6, Virtue,
Kim Burrell and Richard Smallwood.
The
year 2000 brought on M'LiK's departure from Oakwood College,
and what seemed to be the demise of his and Poppa Joe's
partnership. While back in Maryland, M'LiK started Down With
The King Entertainment, as well as his gospel hip-hop choir
C.H.A.O.S. (Christians Honoring An Omnipotent Savior). Even
though things seem ok, something was missing.
In
2003, M'LiK received a call from Poppa Joe that he and his
family were moving back to Wilmington, DE. At this time Down
With The King Entertainment had become the current Rock-Da-Truth
Gospeltainment. With the word that his long lost partner was
going to be back in the area, M'LiK brought Mr. Branch in as
his business partner in Rock-Da-Truth Gospeltainment. This
year also mark a major milestone in M'LiK's life, the
release of his debut album.
Currently,
M'LiK is putting the finishing touches on 'The Standard' his
sophomore double-disc project. M'LiK has not only written
and produced for himself but as well for other artist (he is
currently a highly sought after producer/song writer in the
Maryland, D.C., Delaware area). He produced and wrote the
song 'Step In The Name of The Lord', which ended up being a
#1 requested song on Power 99 in Philadelphia. His song 'Get
Down' off of his album was the #1 song on Judgeme.net for 5
straight days in Sept. 2004. God has and is truly blessing.
