Detroit native, Melody Barnes, is a multi-gifted singer, writer, actress, and speaker, who brings to you a fresh sound with a unique vocal blend of Jazz, Soul, R & B, and Traditional Gospel... From a refreshing brew of both the contemporary and the nostalgic - you get MELODY!
Melody, has opened up for and shared the stage with such notable Gospel & Christian artists as, Marvin Winans, Angelo & Veronica, Deitrick Haddon, Gary Oliver, Isaiah Thomas, Larnell Harris, Donnie McClurkin, and a host of others. No stranger to the acting stage, she has also performed in several Gospel Musical Productions, which included appearances at Washington, DC's historic Lincoln Theater & Maryland's celebrated Publick Playhouse.
Much buzz has already been swirling around the upcoming debut CD release from Melody entitled, The Reason. This project will not only feature her as Song Writer, but also as Co-producer. The new release will include music production from Sam Kendrick of the Stellar Award nominated group, "7 Sons of Soul" and international producer, Steve "Keyz" Ebhodaghe. The Reason, is currently scheduled for release Fall, 2007.
Melody's songs are a part of her own personal testimony and a candid reflection of her journey... It is from this place that her tremendous passion & raw emotion is evoked and felt in every song she sings.
Her music inspirations, which are as varied as her style, range from a wide group of music legends and innovators such as, Mahalia Jackson, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, and Lady Tramaine Hawkins. Other songtresses & balladeers who've impacted Melody's musical journey include, Natalie Cole, Denise Williams, Mary J. Blige, and Chaka Khan - just to name a few.
