Standing
just under 6 feet tall, the phenomenon known as Kyana
possesses a presence and persona that looms well beyond her
thin frame. From her days as the Christian battle rapper in
DC to her brazen, dynamic 2005 solo debut, "We Will Not
Fall," Kyana continues to effortlessly captivate,
minister, provoke, and entertain. Whether she is ripping it
live onstage, ripping in the studio, or speaking at a local
outreach, Kyana, makes you listen.
And
now the legend-in-training is gonna make you listen with her
debut release, "We Will Not Fall" (Penn Avenue
Records). Like a phoenix rising from ashes, Kyana has
emerged from heartache and loss to stand truly alone for the
first time. "I went through so much making this
album," she reflects. "This is like my real baby,
it's all me."
For
"We Will Not Fall," Kyana surrounded herself with
a creative team, and set out, as she says, "try and
reach everybody. I knew my dreams would work; I just knew
that I needed people around me who were going to bring that
out. People believed in me, and that's what mattered."
The result is a stellar collection that shows Kyana's
lyrical prowess and versatility, as well as her uniqueness
as an artist.
For
"We Will Not Fall," Kyana enlisted the help of
A-plus producers like Riff-Raff, whose DC inspired club
anthem, "We Will Not Fall" - featuring Himself- is
"We Will Not Fall” first single and title track.
There are also tracks from Marked Quest, Brandon B-Heat
Broadnax, and Texx (R&B’s Group Moet). "We Will
Not Fall" also boasts an exclusive guest list
consisting of Riff-Raff, James Daniels, Ebony Jackson and
pop upstart group Michelle and Christina.
"We
Will Not Fall" takes the listener on a journey from the
church to the streets, to the heart of a woman who has
experienced the extremes of life. From her uplifting shout
out to her family on "Push and Pull." to the
ominous message to the circumstances of life on "We
Will Not Fall" to the touching loyalty to her future
husband-to-be on "God Sent" to the inspirational
"Nothing to loose," Kyana shows that she is one of
holy hip-hop's most well-rounded, insightful artists. For
her part, Kyana can't wait to share her excitement about the
album with her fans.
