Celebrating the Gospel in the DC Area and Beyond

Listen to Deja Sing

"Raise Up and Praise Him"

Deja

Deja is the first born of William and Demetra Washington, and she was born and raised in Washington, DC.  She is the First Place Winner of the 2005 Billboards 13th Annual Song Writing Contest under Christian/Gospel Category with the song "Raise Up and Praise Him".  Deja knew from the beginning her destiny has been led by the Holy Spirit of God.  Deja, born Deletra J. Washington, developed under the guidance of her father, a music master in his own right, who passed on vocal training to her at an early age.  As a toddler, Deja showed her talent and early love of Classical music by humming Beethoven's Fifth symphony in C minor, which also later on prompted her to study and excel in playing the violin while in grade school.  Deja has been exposed and trained in classical, Gospel, and R&B music from the start.  She has come from a long line of singers and musicians starting with her grandfather, Richard Blandon, of a Doo Wop group called the Dubbs.  Her mother was also a singer along with a long list of others in in her family - Deja could not help but sing.

Deja formed  and sang in a gospel quartet called One Voice.  The group participated in talent shows and performances all over the DC area.  Deja released her first demo at the age of 16 and is now anticipating the release of her debut album independently later in 2006.  Deja continues to sing God's praises wherever she goes.
